About
I am a farmer's daughter and vet born and bred in beautiful South West Scotland where I grew up constantly surrounded by animals. I always loved drawing when I was young but it would be almost 20 years till I picked up a pencil again lying in a hospital bed! I am lucky enough now to be able to combine my passion for farming, vetting and drawing, working on the family farm aswell as locum vet work and setting up my rural art business! My aim is to capture the character and spirit of every animal I draw, be it a memorial portrait of a much loved pet, a prize winning tup or any of the spectacular British wildlife I am lucky enough to have on my doorstep. I have a huge soft spot for Border Collies and especially enjoy all things sheep related, lambing is the best time of year!

Commissions
Commissions
I offer a commission service to draw any animal your heart desires! I use high quality lightfast and archival materials to ensure your portrait lasts a lifetime. Your portrait will occupy a good proportion of the page with a white background surrounding it. A 25% booking fee is required to secure your slot. The rest of payment is due on completion of your portrait. Please book your slot early should you require your picture for a special occasion as drawings take many hours to complete. I will update you on my progress regularly throughout the drawing process. The end result being something you can cherish for a lifetime!
Taking a good photo
A good quality reference photograph is crucial to creating your portrait. Digital photography where possible is best. The better the photo the more detail I can create!
A few tips for taking a good photo are as follows:
1) Photograph outdoors where possible in natural light with the sun behind the animal
2) Don't use filters or any other settings that may change the colour of your animal. Ensuring the photo is a true representation of the colour of your animal is essential
3) Avoid the animal looking directly at the camera. Head to the side or at an angle is best
4) Ensure when you zoom in on your photo there is lots of clear detail, especially of the eyes
I will discuss with you which photo will be best to use before starting the commission
